What to Pack When Leaving Your Dog for a Day or Night?
Here’s what I recommend you pack when your dog comes for a stay — whether it’s for the day or overnight.
Essentials
- Food & Feeding Instructions
Bring enough of your dog’s usual food, plus clear instructions on portion sizes and feeding times. Familiar food helps avoid tummy issues and keeps their routine consistent. - Collar and Leash
While we have extras here, it’s always best if your dog comes with their own, especially if they respond better to a specific harness or leash type. - Bed or Blanket
A familiar-smelling blanket or bed does wonders for helping your dog settle in. Even just a small piece of home can provide comfort during their stay. - A Favorite Toy
If there’s a toy your dog loves, feel free to bring it along! It gives them something familiar to play with and helps reduce any anxiety. - Medication (if needed)
If your dog is on medication, please pack it in a clearly labeled container along with written instructions. We’re happy to make sure they stay on schedule.
Optional, But Helpful
- Chews or Treats – especially helpful for longer stays
- Feeding Bowl – not necessary, but welcome if your dog prefers their own
- Towel – if the weather’s wet or if your dog enjoys water
- Routine notes – any tips on nap habits, quirks, or things your dog loves/hates
What Not to Pack
- Rawhide or aggressive chews that may cause choking
- Bowls or bedding that are overly valuable or difficult to clean
- More than 1–2 toys (space is limited and calm is key)
Final Tip
If it’s your dog’s first time with us, we recommend a short “trial stay” — even just 1–2 hours — to help them get familiar with the space, smells, and me. It makes a huge difference when the real stay comes.Need help preparing?
